In the UK you will find this dish as a starter in many restaurants and takeaways, the British love the taste of the bhaji.

During Ramadan, the month of fasting, pakoras are often eaten by Muslims during Iftar (the evening meal to break the fast).

Among the Muslim Cape Malays of South Africa, (onion bhaji) pakoras are known as dhaltjies, and are usually eaten as an appetizer during Iftar, or as appetizers for weddings, births, or similar occasions.

You can also cook other types of bhaji too instead of onion, like mushroom and potato.
